I have been engaged to development and then implement and teach several new and innovative programs designed to help educate and train small business owners and entrepreneurs in the basics of starting, managing and growing their companies. The programs include:


Accessing Capital to Grow Your
Business I


Designed to provide small to medium sized business with the information they need to develop relationships with banks and understand how to successfully secure a bank loan or line of credit. Program sponsors include Citibank, Mechanics Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Oakland Business Development Corp. and Cal State East Bay SBDC.


Leveraging Technology to Build your Business


Focus of this program is to help businesses understand how to use computer and mobile communications
technology to better organize, manage and build their company?s regardless of industry.  Program sponsors include Cisco, Microsoft, McLarenSachi, the Small Business Administration and the Cal State East Bay SBDC.


E-commerce to Maximize Sales & Profits


Designed to assist businesses of all sizes in how the web works and the steps they need to take to maximize e-commerce to increase sales and profits, inform customers and suppliers, streamline the supply chain and accelerate the introduction of new products.  Program sponsors include Google, Microsoft, eBay and the Cal State East Bay SBDC.


How to Write a Successful Business Plan


This brand new program replaced two older ones and represents the first fully integrated approach to developing a winning business plan.  This program will be expanded across the region and made a core part of the SBA education and training programs.  Sponsors include The City of Fremont, the Small Business Administration and Cal State East Bay SBDC.


Human Resources Management

Developed to help all businesses, but especially technology, service and not-for-profit ones, understand modern Human Resources management techniques, protocols and practices with which to better hire, train and motivate their employees.  Sponsors include Gevity Inc., the largest co-employment company in the United States, The City of Oakland, Alameda County GSA and Cal State East Bay SBDC. 


Business and Legal Considerations


This program is designed to help business owners and entrepreneurs understand the When and How of creating a legal organization as the basis for building their companies.  The program will review the different forms of legal organizations including C- corps, S-corps, LLC's, LLP's and Holding Company structures.  In addition the material will help business owners to better isolate business liabilities and risks from personal ones, match insurance protection to the type of business and in the process of choosing a lawyer.

 

Accessing Capital II - Expansion Capital


This course is an extension of the already successful Accessing Capital I program, which will be taught in three locations in Alameda County and in Sonoma in the first quarter of 2007, and take the business owner past start-up and bank financing as sources of capital.  This program will be for larger companies seeking expansion capital, business owners looking to achieve a leveraged recapitalization and for those who want to understand what sources of Leveraged Buyout and Management Buyout firms are seeking in their investments.


Technology for Control and Communications


A major source of concern for all business owners is that their companies are well managed with the right type of accounting software, management information systems, telecommunications equipment, remote telecommunication systems and hardware. In addition, the program will review the systems needed to control inventory, improve the productivity of field sales personnel and independent sales reps and provide senior management with the accurate and timely information they need to manage the business. 


Smart Office - Smart Worker


This program will focus on the Best Practice methodologies a company can use to maximize the overall efficiency of its employees.  This will include smart business solutions for small business owners seeking to achieve the same level of mobile and remote computing and telecommunications solutions usually experienced in larger companies.  The program is full of smart and simple efficiency improvements available to companies of all sizes.


Maximizing Your Marketing Dollars


For most companies, especially small and medium sized firms, total marketing costs are a large and growing use of funds. This program helps business owners in understanding how to allocate spending between different types of media, it explains how to use these different marketing formats most appropriately and how to both measure results and control spending.  Comcast is the corporate sponsor for this program.


Building a Successful Food or Beverage Brand


The program is designed for those businesses in the broadly defined Food & Beverage business and for entrepreneurs who want to launch a new brand.  The focus will be on consumer marketing issues for food & beverage brands, understanding how to segment the market by type of distribution, the best practice ways to expand and what to expect from the distribution and retail channels.


 
International Business Management


 

This seminar will be focused on helping U.S. based companies understand the combination of "what to" and "how to" develop both a true international business and to add elements of multi-national business practice to their existing domestic ones.  The program will topics including international product sourcing, how to move goods around the world cost effectively, international finance, Export/Import financing tools and building a management team and Management Information Systems capable of operating and controlling a company with a diverse geographic infrastructure.


Mangement Information Systems

The seminar helps people to understand how to convert their basic accounting data into useful, timely and accurate management information with which to best operate their businesses, make decisions and gain competitive advantage in their markets.  The program looks at the practical aspects of developing an integrated set of management information and financial information reports, how to use the information to make decisions, communicate with others and gain tactical advantage in negotiations with vendors.  The program is joined by Microsoft, Intuit and others for a complete learning experience for the class.
